Casablanca is Morocco’s most cosmopolitan city, a place where Atlantic breezes, Art Deco boulevards, and a distinctly modern urban rhythm meet centuries of North African and Islamic heritage. It appeals to travelers who want a gateway city with real character: less overtly historic than Marrakech, but full of architectural surprises, café culture, and a lived-in energy that feels both local and international. The best times to visit are spring and autumn, when temperatures are mild and comfortable for exploring; summer can be warm but is moderated by the coast, while winter is generally pleasant, though occasionally cool and rainy.

Among the city’s highlights, the Hassan II Mosque is the essential sight, an immense landmark set partly over the Atlantic and open to non-Muslim visitors on guided tours. The Corniche offers seaside promenades, beaches, and restaurants, while the old medina provides a more traditional, maze-like contrast to the city’s modern core. Travelers should also spend time in neighborhoods such as the city center and the Habous quarter, where French colonial planning, Moorish design, and everyday commerce blend together. Casablanca’s food scene is one of its pleasures, from fresh seafood and grilled fish to tagines, pastilla, and Moroccan pastries served with mint tea. The city is also a good place to experience contemporary Moroccan life through its markets, cafés, and a cultural mix shaped by trade, migration, and a long Atlantic outlook.
